(I tried to reply to Ian before, but apparently it didn't post)
Hey, don't you remember how long it took me to get my pictures posted? I had to take pictures at least many times, and it took even more attempts to even get them on the computer, let alone posted (quite blurrily, I night add) on the internet?
Not one of my better pix...
...oh, and heres the rest, again: http://s615.photobucket.com/albums/tt237/DJdeTrainman/ _________________ D.J. (Now also Other David, since Mr. Smith was here first)

DJ. You could print that photo out at 8 x 6 foot, frame it and sell it for $1000 as a piece of impressionist art.
Okay - here's some pics I took of Paul's DERM this evening. 'twas getting dark and the light wasn't the best - AND I hadn't brought my mini tripod to the shop - but the following pics will give you all an idea of what it looks like.
It should be pointed out that these close-up photos are somewhat unkind to the model which I think looks much nicer than these photos show. So if you think it looks good here (and it does) then it is actually much better.
Here's a view showing the now completed Boggy Creek bridge.
Close-up of the composite ABE car. Second class (or later Economy class) on the left, First class on the right. You can tell by the window spacing. First class compartments were larger, partly due to the thicker padding on the seats. These usually had 6-wheel bogies, but we might be waiting a while for Eishindo to release these.
And lastly, here is an air-conditioned BS class car, with a smoothed 103 shell for comparison. _________________ Darren,

Oh wow.
What more is there to say they all look awesome.
It looks like sign making vinyl is the way to go.
Being an ex-sign maker myself and at the risk of alienating all other non sign makers on the list. What type of vinyl are you using?

This is spooky. I almost feel like I've joined an "old signmaker's forum," as I was one myself as well. In fact it was my first paying job. Nowadays I'm looking at those Cricut machines with more than just a passing interest... _________________ —David

Ummm, well, had things worked out differently, I may have gone into signwriting myself. But no, I became a postman and then went into the, errr, "highly lucrative" career of hobby shop proprietor.
At school I had done media, advertising and graphic design related subjects.
And I'm a projectionist too.
I have at least painted one of my own signs out the front of my shop. I wonder if Paul had noticed which one it is?

Oh, now this is getting much spookier. In high school and college I also worked as a projectionist (not at a theater, just at the school). Frequently seen walking around with film cuts...
I was never a postman, so that does leave me resting a little easier. _________________ —David

Ah, but I could so easily NOT have been a postman too. How spooky is that?
In truth, my parents ran a small-town post office, and when our postie left (she got married) and I was looking for a job, well, it seemed logical. Mail around town was delivered by pushbike back then and my route did include several crossings of and streets either side of the main Gippsland railway. I tended to have my camera in the mailbag to capture any interesting trains that happened by. _________________ Darren,

Thanks Ian! the sign film is avery, 724 pf. there is a few different brands i use, changing the weight constantly.
As you could imagine i had to fine tune the plotter, using a brand new blade, changed blade offset, minimal 30gram weight, & 8cm or so slow speed. its on the extremity of what the plotter can cut. (& i can weed!!! ) i will mostly do masters for casting this way from now, if all goes to plan!! |

I am actually a huuuuuge fan of the DERMs! Im currently making one in HO, looking to do one in N scale, going to get paul to do one for me in t gauge and am researching to do one in 5" miniature railway gauge!!!
Obsessive?? I think so!!!
Enjoy

Well, in that case, you'll need one of the O gauge RTR brass ones I'm involved with right now. Should be ready by mid-year.

I only aimed the camera and tried to hold it steady during the slow exposures. I think it was Paul who captured all the VR atmosphere.
