Carl is an old friend from my Gn15 modelling days. So I did rattle his cage about it a tiny little bit.
I was very interested to see some pictures of a Japanese modellers layout included in the article as well.

I must admit Carl has some interesting definitions about layouts. I think there has to be some more clarification on what constitutes a layout, and when a "toy" makes the transition to a model railroad.

I've always loved Carl's site and have frequently looked there for inspiration. That said, he does make some valid points about T. T is still in its infancy, and all of the members here that have sets have commented how sporadic they can be,. Teething problems are bound to happen in any new venture, but overall, reliability appears to be good.
Aside from that, the plastic train layout is very interesting, as I've thought of doing that for Christmas, having several of the Dollar Store train sets avaialble.

Agreed! Seems that at this point Carl has 'dismissed' (too strong a term) T until such time that the scale proves itself. I'm glad he's issued a challenge - give one an opportunity to rise to the occasion.
Likewise, it is nice to reflect on the scale a little. There has been a somewhat disappointed tone of late as people are starting to identify some shortcomings of the scale. Hopefully a little innovation will remedy this!

What bothers me the most is that it fits his definition of a "model railroad," yet it could not look more toy-like!
It's got me working on a blog entry...

I've seen some toys look pretty good, but I can definitely understand where you're coming from.
Personally, I think it's whatever you amke it. I've done serious modeming, and fun modeling. While the palstic train may not be the most detailed piece of model railrad equipment on the planet (trust me, I have some)m it's a good start for a 7 year old. I'm seriously doing some thinking about these sets and how to get a semi-serious looking train out of them.
No more sidetracking though, back to T gauge

| Carl's site is in my favs. He updates every month and sometimes twice. Some of the content is iffy, but it is usually all new each month. |
