Hi,
I'm considering scratch building some structures as an experiment to see if I can build something as small as T scale.
What's the best way to simulate brick? How large is a T gauge brick? Is it enough to simply paint a surface a brick color or do I need to make some kind of brick paper or (gulp) inscribe the surface with a brick pattern? How much detail is enough? |

"How big is a brick" is a really loaded question that modelers have been discussing for generations.
I think you may need to experiment to see what is satisfactory for you. My gut says that there's no need to inscribe brick detail that small. However, a solid brick color probably won't work, either.
You might want to try printing a photo of a brick wall close to scale, and see how that looks. You could use a door or window as a reference to get the size right. I'm going to be doing this myself sometime soon as I get started on a T scale layout. _________________ —David

You could also download an N scale kit from scalescenes http://www.scalescenes.com
and set your printer to print at 33% that should bring a kit out at the right size.
