With the intention of determining the practicality of handlaying T gauge track I searched for sources for code 40 steel rail.
The 2mm Scale Association offers code 40 'bullhead' rail. Bullhead rail has a narrower base than typical flat bottomed rail. However, it is still flat enough to solder or glue to ties.
The problem is that you have to be a member of the 2mm society to buy from them. This is a pretty expensive way to get rail -- the rail is £3.50 for a 10m length, membership is £20 in the UK, £27 for the rest of us. Does anyone know if this is an item available elsewhere in the UK hobby scene?
This might be moot anyway when Eishindo starts selling flex, which could be cannibalized for the rail.

My husband is a member of the N Gauge society so would be able to get it for anyone that want some. |

You can buy code 40 flat bottomed rail from these people at modest cost:
http://www.handlaidtrack.com/item.php?id=4904&link_str=184&partno=17-040-C
However as it is not steel there is no adhesion so I doubt it will work.
There is a UK supplier of bull-headed code 40 in short lengths other than the 2mm SA, but I can't find their URL.
The 2mm SA also do code 30 plain rectangular section "rail".
Perhaps a better option is to try using piano wire, which is steel.
