I have just been talking with a local hobby business proprietor about the state of the hobby and he's looking for some interesting modelling niches to get into. So I suggested T gauge.
My question to the North American modellers is. Would you use a US supplier or would you still order from Japan?

All depends. As long as the markup is not to bad, for the cheaper shipping would make up the price for the fact the train had to come to the shop FIRST. _________________ D.J. (Now also Other David, since Mr. Smith was here first)

So far in my limited exhibiting experince, many folks want to know where they can get T from and they are quite disappointed when told there is no US stockists. So it's something that is really needed _________________ I CAN see how cool this stuff is!!!

For me in the UK - it's amatter of exchange rate. I'm buying Nn3 kits from Canada - so where to buy is not as important as final cost in GBP and time taken to get here _________________ visit www.kenjonestrains.co.uk and www.ngaugewmg.co.uk

Sort of surprising there is no US stockist already. In any case, if a US dealer was relying solely on US customers from this forum, it might not be worth their while to stock T. I'm sure the main interest would initially be from those who had never heard of T gauge until seeing it in a shop.
I have found most of my sales have been to such people, or those that heard about it online somewhere. I have done no local advertising of T gauge yet, apart from mention on one or two local forums.
After next weekend, I expect there will be at least a minor explosion of interest in T gauge in Victoria, and no doubt word will then spread elsewhere - possibly resulting in some competition for me. Don't be surprised if the Victorian component on this forum grows a little more in the next few weeks. _________________ Darren,

I'd definitely like to see American distribution. The idea of having a LHS with the stuff, or at least a distributor where the LHS could get it in a couple of days would be a big plus. Availability of spares and parts would be another plus.
For example, I have been mulling getting some more track but don't feel like having to order overseas for a five ounce envelope of track. Or seeing some buildings might get me to buy them as a start on scenicing. My buying tends to be impulse, project driven, or just in time. Planning a big order from a remote site isn't my style.
No offense, but frankly having an established distributor that HSs are already talking to would be the win for me -- someone like Walthers, Horizon or even Mokei. A US internet site instead of a Japanese internet site, or a single LHS which isn't in my area, not so much.
