i have heard now, the news of our horrifc bushfires in the dense forrests a couple of kilometers from our town and burning in many huge seperate fires all over victoria has reached news most parts of the world. tradgicly 108 lives lost so far, many in our local area, thousands of hectares of land destroyed, many hundreds of homes lost.
unfortunatly one of those homes lost is our forum member Adrian ZOMER, a very close freind of mine. Adrain and his family are safe and well, along with his parents, who also lost there house down the road, in this not so long ago beautiful bushland just out of town.
Adrian is a positve wonderful bubbley person who is EXTREAMLY fun to be around, and is in relativly high spirits (lightly joking he managed to save the t gauge!) amoungst a few other small things.
so if there is anything i can do to help mate, just yell out. even if its just to relax with my shout of a few beers.
regards, Paul. |

Please pass on my sympathy to Adrian for the situation he now finds himself in.
I had read about these fires in the news but never thought that it could be affecting someone I know.
Glad to hear that he saved the T gauge, and I sincerely hope that everything will get better for him and his family soon.

That is just so tragic. I too have been reading about these fires, but the though that they would impact anyone I might know, even remotely, never entered my mind. Please pass along my best wishes to him and his family. Wish I could do more, but from halfway around the world, that's all I can do! _________________ —David

A truly dreadful tragedy, not just for those who have lost their lives or their homes, but for the nation as a whole. I'm sure I can say, without the least presumption, that the thoughts of all of us are with you. _________________ Gary

Well, I knew the fires were in that area, but it still comes as a shock to read this - and here of all places.
The important part is that Adrian and his family are safe. That the T gauge is also safe is a small bonus I guess we've just learnt yet another advantage of T gauge. Easy to take with you in an emergency.
Horrible events like these fires always seem to put things in perspective. I heard on the television* an interview with one man who had lost his home and all his possessions. "I haven't really lost anything" he said. "All this stuff can be replaced". His neighbour had lost his life.
*I heard this as the TV news was simulcast on a Melbourne AM station, which I was streaming from their website. The fires have also knocked out a transmission tower that broadcasts most TV stations in our part of Gippsland and also most FM radio stations, including the one broadcasting emergency information. _________________ Darren,

T-gaugers,
I live in the seasonally dry Northern California. Believe me, I know what fear we all go through evey summer (fire season). I and my neighbors have expended a lot of energy in the past thirty years in clearing and maintaining large fire breaks. They don't guarantee 100% safety, but at least they give you half a chance.
I truly feel for you who got burned out, hang in there.

Sympathies for zomer and family losing their homes and doubtless lthings of sentimental value.
I have to confess I did wonder if anybody on here would be affected but didn't like to ask. |

The T gauge layout was saved. I simly grabbed the briefcase and put it in the car. I saved my N scale rolling stock but much of my railway memoribilia was lost.
Here is a picture taken from a news helicopter that feature ina popular Australian Newspaper (The Age)
This shows what is left of my house.
I better go and get started on some T gauge buildings. Once that is done Ill have to work on some 1:1 scale buildings
Take Care

Adrian, I'm sure I speak for everyone here in saying how glad we all are that you and your family are safe, not to mention your T Gauge layout. I commend your spirit and resilience to the whole world! _________________ Gary

Adrian, the number one priority is your safety. T gauge trains can be replaced, but not the modeler. It's good that you were able to save the T gauge, but better that you are OK! _________________ —David

Good to hear (or read) from you Adrian. Homeless bum indeed! Tch!
And after all this, you still ask US to take care???
Looking at The Age photo, ironic that the water tanks survived, isn't it?
See you soon. Oh, and TAKE CARE [points].
