I won't hijack Peter's thread any more, but his layout idea sparked something of a thought experiment in me, as anyone who read my request for track spacing may have guessed. If Eishindo release the tram, then my idea for a diorama may become a tiny layout. I'm mostly posting this in case it throws out any more ideas.

Possibly to be named "Mutsu Bay", with an autumn feel, Ginkgo and Maple, and running longer versions of these:

I was anticipating just making a diorama, but Peter has a traverser/sector-plate hidden on his layout, which put me in mind of this, which I built in OO out of standard parts:

(The prototype, from a 5" gauge line, is partway down this thread.)

(The build is the first section of this thread. You'll see why this bodge caught my attention...)

So, just for fun, I drew up some Nn18 settrack, and figured out whether it would be do-able in T gauge. These three should show the possible tracks, and will be re-photographed when I glue the "settrack" to something.

I think so, given the wheelset dimensions, but the only way to find out would be to buy some stock, so I'll wait for the tram to arrive. Smile

I'd anticipate two tracks being a two track terminus station, one straight track leading over a bridge to somewhere where the stock can hide, the other track leading to a car-shed or freight-house.

Operationally, without working couplers, tram-set A arrives, followed by set B, set A moves to the shed, set B leaves. You could add: Set C arrives, A moves to platform, C moves to shed, B arrives, A leaves and so on. I spent a happy hour or so in a Budapest bar watching this happen over and over. I envisage that a nice chilled pearl sake would have the same effect.

If anyone devises a way of coupling and uncoupling on the fly, the whole operational sequence including van-trailers that appears in my series in the Gn15 Tome is possible, three sets, one station pilot and two vans giving a half-hour sequence before repeating. Several glasses of sake. Well, I can dream.

I originally tried to make this work in Gn15 (see Cross Quays on that forum) but lacking a run-around the trick doesn't work, because it's obvious in G that the driver is at the wrong end half the time. However, Sue has seen my latest loco build in Gn15 and I think I'm stuck with trying to make it work for her. The long and short coach designs scale up to 1:32 quite nicely.

Meanwhile in T/Nn18 I'm just not up to a cut-and-shut, so I have to wait with bated breath for the tram model. But, if/when it arrives, I'm looking forward to having a go.
