Talking T Gauge

This tinly little car was included as part of a trophy in a 1:25 scale kit produced by Revell, issued a year or two ago. It is a heavily-customized 1949 Mercury two-door. You can see there is some window and door detailing but no detaling for the front and rear ends. Rear wheels are covered with fender skirts so are smoothed over. I stripped the "chrome" finish off one and you can see how it looks next to an approx. 1:480 scale switcher. My estimate the scale to be around 1:430 on average, so maybe it's a hair overscale.

Not sure you'd want to get a $15-18 kit just for this piece, but I thought you'd like to know it's there.

Kit is listed as Revell 1949 Mercury Custom Coupe. (Not to be confused with the long-lived stock version produced by AMT)

Detail painting will be tricky!

Interesting! Good find. I'd love to see what you do with it. Possibly one could just get that part through Revell for a small fee?

On a side note, where'd you get that switcher?

I have my doubts the part may be available separately. Model car kit companies tend to discourage this these days. Perhaps someone can offer resin copies in the future. I'd love Revell to put similar trophy toppers in their other kits. AMT similar did years ago, but those are much larger.

The switcher is an approx. 1:480 solid-metal "scenery" item that I wonder if had origins as an architectural model supply item. I was going to post that soon.

I would like to get some castings of that car for sure! I would like to have a Z Scale one too! Very Happy
