Gday all!!
I have updated the VicTGauge blog with pictures of my briefcase layout. It includes scratchbuilt road trestle and level crossing lights. I now have to clean up and texturise the road and paint the level crossing lights. Shrubs and trees will be next though.
Paul has been making awesome progress on his layout and I will add pictures of that to the blog soon.
Hope you like it. I have an exhibition in March so I hope for this to be of high standard by then and perhaps a little rail trestle diarama as well.
Cheers

Excellent work Can't wait to see more progress. Are the crossing lights Eishindo products? _________________ Regards,

Nah mate . I made them myself. I used 1mm styrene rod as the pole. Thin strands of styrene as the "X" and folded for the light shades. The "Stop on Red Signal" sign and the circle for the lights were thin pieces of cardboard. In later versions I will use styrene to replace cardboard parts. They might be a bit over scale but it would be difficult to make them any smaller.
Ill paint them ASAP and post up pics. Im keen to see them painted.

Ah! Actual layout progress. Very nice to see. Making those crossing signals must've been fun when I think about how tiny they must be. I was going to make some for my layout, but think I'll wait for the Eishindo ones to be released. I suspect they will be able to be Australianised or Americanized too. Of course for the Australian version, the cross-arms (crossbucks) really need to be at a different angle (hint hint).
Australian signal on left, US one on the right.
By the way zomer, the Australian photo is of one that used to be on the Maryvale line. _________________ Darren,

I never noticed a difference!!! This Gunzel hangs his head in shame !!
Making them was actually very fun......I was inside where it was cool away from the 45C heat outside!!!
It shouldnt take long to change them to Australian standards. I also have to add the bell to one of them. These are a first attempt and will only get better from here. I need to make some road signs next.
I will post up pics once the paint is finished.

And I should think so too.
Ah, just kidding. But I have to do my bit to lift the standards of Australian prototype T gauge modelling.

Another reason I felt it okay to bring the subject up.

Well, they're better than mine already. No doubt the Mk II versions will have working bell and lights.

Road signs (and their correct placement) are one of my specialties. I might be able to help you ensure your signs are correct for the era too.

Absolutely........actually all jokes aside I reckon I could do it using fibre optics! Might have to look into it.

Sounds like a plan!!! I might have to come and see you about some water and shrubbery as well. Do you have anything that will suit a road surface? Ive painted it as an undercoat but would like something with a bit of texture.
I have started on the trestles for the bridge on my diarama. Bloody hell its tiny!!!!! _________________ Victorian T Gauge Blog

Fibre-optic bell? That'll be interesting. Oh, you meant the lights.
I'd not get too carried away with road texture in 1:450 scale. If you can see it in this scale, it's probably oversize. I do have material for road surfaces in stock. The roads on my layout are mostly dark grey matt paint on balsa. Not that the balsa was ideal. The roads on the hill side are the same dark grey paint on wood filler. Parts of this are a bit rough in 1:450 scale, but it looks okay. I shall be using a smoother surface for future work.
I've improved these a bit after taking the photos, but still not totally happy with them. As with all modelling though, it is a learning experience. And in this scale, even the experienced amongst us are learning, I'm sure. _________________ Darren,

I'm working on an American set, with plans to use SMD LEDs.

I have updated the blog with pictures showing the finished crossing signals and application of trees. The crossing signals were 'fixed' to resemble the Australian prototype.
I now have to start on making housed, a general store and a pub!! Im getting 'thirsty' just thinking bout it........!!!!!! _________________ Victorian T Gauge Blog
