I know that there is an anti-mailing list attitude among some members of this list (notably the founder, see: http://1-160.blogspot.com/2008/01/why-i-left-discussion-boards-behind.html ), but I'm thinking of setting up a mailing list on Yahoo for T Gauge.

I see the following possible benefits -- such a list provides file and photo space which could be useful. It also allows a digest mode where folks can get their news fix once a day and also see the progression of any thread, not just those that you tag, this way you're aware of new topics.

To keep this from getting inflammatory, contact me with a personal message if you would be interested in such a list. If I get a reasonable positive response I'll set up such a list. Also if there are any 'top dozen' members of this list who would like to be moderators tell me that as well.

I would set the list up as semi-closed membership -- you'd have to write a note expressing interest, and initially moderated -- to discourage spammers.

I realize that such a list may be taken as direct competition to this forum, as most folks probably wouldn't want to have the same discussions or ask the same questions on both lists, but this is not meant to be antagonistic.

Well, it's been two weeks and I haven't seen any replies. I'll consider this dead for now. Maybe I'll test interest again in a couple of months.

I'd be of the mind "Build it and they will come" - I'd definitely join this, and I'm sure alot of the other members here would as well.

This may have been a function of where the post was made. Now that it has a place of its own, it may start getting nibbles.

I am a member of a few of these Yahoo Groups and find them quite useful. As mentioned before the filespace can come in handy as with the capability of uploading files. A few files have come up that could be added to the one 'central place'. If such a group was created I would join and likely utilise its features. I probably wouldnt use the messages function as most topics are covered here.

Well, I somehow missed it earlier. Not sure how as I always check the new posts.

I too am in several Yahoo groups. To be honest, it's getting a bit out of hand. In fact I've recently cancelled membership in several.
I'm more than happy to get my T-info fix here. Perhaps if the ability to upload photos was on this forum, there'd be less need to split off into yet another group. I already have my own space to upload photos, so I don't find this so important, but no doubt others would find it useful.

That said, I'd probably join if you go ahead. But I'm not personally convinced of the need for a group at this stage. I see the points you make - such as the digest. But this forum isn't really that busy (yet) that you're in danger of missing a post - Oh yes, I see the irony considering I missed (or forgot) the original post in this subject. Laughing However, the new posts are shown in orange, so I don't think I miss many. Wink
