A couple more progress shots after a short stint at building tonight

I need to clean off that filler
Beginning to feel more like the real thing I think.

More photographs of today's progress.
Its really beginning to look like the prototype now.

I hope I'm not boring you with the endless parade of pictures of unpainted styrene. But there's not really much else to say. about it.
I have decided that instead of making up a handrail from N scale ladder (which would have worked quite well I think) I have placed an order for some etched ship handrail. At the same time I ordered some etched ladder for the outside as well. That should set it off quite nicely. The lighthouse flasher unit from richmond controls looks as if it will be quite promising to make the unit work.

Hardly! This is great stuff. All too often we see maybe one under-construction shot (or maybe none) and then a finished shot. Keep it up!

I used an old battery powered hot wire cutter that I got at a craft strore clearance sale for about 1.99 USD. One of the best buys I ever made. I've had it about 10 years and only just broke the wire on it last week.

Yesterday afternoon I took the layout in its incomplete state down to the model railroad club for a show 'n' tell. Now the models haven't so much as run since I dismantled the track after the Saint Cloud show in December. So I was a little nervy as I assembled the track in front of everyone at the club. Needless to say I needn't have worried as everything ran perfectly and everyone was amazed by the small size of things.
It felt good to see the trains running and it does present a rather nice sight to see the trains running over the bridge.

For quite sometime I've been messing about with lumps of expanded polystyrene working on the shapes of the hills.
Here's a quick picture of how things stand at the moment.

Still working on it but I think you can start to get a feel for how the finished layout will look.
There's a more detailed report up on my blog for you to follow as well.

I've been changing my mind Rolling Eyes
There was someting not quite right about the big hill there and its been bugging me for ages.
So...
See that cutting running back to the tunnel mouth on the left hand side?
It no longer exists.
I have bought the tunnel mouth forward and now the track curves away from the station platform and dives into the tunnel.
It looks much better. I also had to add a little extra to the coastline but the overall effect is much improved.

Ian
p.s. picture to follow later...

Sounds like a most sensible thing to do. Should cut down on the roundy-roundy effect of a loop.
